Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID)

AusAID is the Australian Government’s agency for international development. It plans, coordinates and manages the Australian Government’s overseas aid program, which is predominantly focused in the Asia Pacific. Our objectives is to assist developing countries reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development, in line with Australia’s national interest. AusAID provides aid to approximately 52 countries, with a strong focus on the Asia-Pacific region. Our staff specialise in, and provide expert advice on, areas of critical importance to developing countries, such as: health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, law and order, governance, the environment and economic growth. AusAID’s offices are in Canberra and in 27 countries around the world (mainly in the Asia Pacific).

What we offer graduates
Working for AusAID gives you a unique, firsthand insight into international diplomacy issues affecting our region. There are diverse roles and careers paths available at AusAID. You could be involved in:
  • Providing policy advice on PNG’s HIV/AIDS epidemic.
  • Education, health, gender, environmental and anticorruption policies.
  • Developing mine clearing policies in Asia.
  • Managing relationships with a range of NGOs and multi-laterals, such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and the World Health Organisation.
  • Providing disaster relief support.
  • Providing advice to AusAID overseas officers in the event of a humanitarian crisis or disaster.

Graduates employed at AusAID work as policy/ program officers, corporate services professionals (including public affairs officers, human resources officers, IT specialists, finance officers), country specialists, and advisers on environment, health, education, gender, infrastructure and rural development.
